The Clair’s

Let’s talk shop. Let’s talk Spirit shop. My favorite conversations are always about the unknown, the out there stuff, the taboo stuff, the deep depth stuff, the stuff that requires a certain comfort with vulnerability, not knowing, expression, honesty, exploration of self vs others, others vs self, the esoteric, alien, occult, mystery, conditioning vs nature, nature vs nurture, psychology, the what do you believe in type stuff, the how does your mind work type stuff... The kind of conversations that don’t have to have a final answer, or a black and white truth, or even an answer at all. The conversations that can really make you think, the conversations where you learn a greater perspective or a new way of perceiving from the person sitting across from you. I am a forever student. Life is one big lesson, and I am here to soak it all in and learn. I have no idea how to survive on the surface. What better way to start off these next few articles that will be within that theme, all existing under that umbrella.

To kick off these mini series blog posts of potentially out there topics - let’s start with the Clair’s. Let’s start talking shop at a foundational level - Spirit communication. What are the Clair’s, you ask? Ok… maybe you didn’t ask. But it is fascinating stuff - let’s dive into it. We’ll dip our toes in it today. In future articles, we will do an individual deep dive on each Clair and the beauty it can offer to enrich a reading.

It is important to note - Spirit communication can be biased if the channel it is coming through is biased. If your channel is biased because of your personal lived experiences, conditioning, perspective, way of living, choices, beliefs, opinions, and so on.. it can bias the read for yourself and for others. This isn’t something the reader is doing consciously. The bias is coming from the subconscious, the hidden parts of ourselves, the parts of ourselves that need to be looked at, held, honored and healed. That is why it is so important to do shadow work. Shadow work, in short, is the exploration of your subconscious mind - all the pieces and parts of your life and Self that have formulated the story you now carry and hold as truth. But what if the story didn’t have an ending. What if the story just had dot dot dot … The beautiful thing about shadow work is you will tell the story differently once you really immerse yourself in the reflection of yourSelf through shadow work (this will be a future blog post where we dive more in depth on all things shadow). What is important to know - the shadow isn’t something you run from. The shadow Self is something you integrate. You befriend it, you sit with your demons, you get comfortable in the uncomfortable, and learn what it has to teach you.

Think of shadow work like the drano, or snaking a drain to your energetic body. Think of all the things that have happened in your life that may have gotten caught in your drain. That piles up as life goes on. Shadow work is the drano, or snaking the drain, to the gunk - that “shadow”. When you have a clear pipe - water can flow with ease. When you have a clear channel - energy can flow with ease. That gunk can create a bias, it can alter the information you receive for a reading. That gunk can change energy you connect with, what’s attracted to you, and the energy you can actually channel. The more work you do on you, the more work I do on me, the more we can be a channel that is unbiased and open; where we can channel anything. Shadow work isn’t meant to be a place of self condemnation. It is quite the opposite. Shadow work is for finding security in Self and empowerment in who you are, unapologetically. It is holding yourself with grace and love, and understanding yourself on a deeper level, being accountable for your substance and owning it. It is facing your mirror. It is challenging and not for the faint of heart - but if you can meet yourself, you will emerge on the other side changed. Shadow work and the Lilith archetype can go hand in hand. More on that in a future hub post!

Spirit communication is extremely subtle. The only time I’ve ever felt Spirit “scream” in my life was when my life was so off track from my Soul’s purpose - the Universe was like; how loud do we have to yell for you to hear, for you to finally “…” (fill in the blank there with however that may apply to your life). And the scream - no, it is not an audible “AHHH!!!” Absolutely no. Their screaming is more like the depiction of The Tower card in the original Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot Deck. The Tower is depicted as being struck by lightning, on fire, people jumping from the building. That is what the Universe will do to get you on the correct path - what I so lovingly refer to as “Spirit screaming at me”. I have learned to listen to Spirit on the whisper. To not push through something that isn’t aligned with me - because in time, it will eventually end in a scream. And the scream? It is not gentle. It is not comfortable. It often ends with having to pick up the pieces to a life that you didn’t actually even want in the first place, but settled for - for whatever reason. It’s messy. But - the beauty of it all, it leaves you with the ability to shift. To shift towards what is aligned, what is for you. Almost like a wildflower that begins to bloom after a forest fire. The hope that comes after the destruction. Spirit’s scream is never for harm, it is always for redirection. I’ve come to the knowing that everything is always happening for me, not to me. Even those Tower moments; they’re nothing to fear because destruction is just redirection to something better. I’ve gotten to such a powerful and peaceful place within Self; knowing every redirection, every pause, every “glitch” is just Spirit’s way of keeping me on path. Every redirection is divine and for the benefit of my highest. But…I digress.

Let’s talk about those Clair’s and how to tap into them. Like I said, Spirit speaks in a language that is extremely subtle. And if you’re not paying attention, you may miss it. Spirit needs you to find stillness in yourself. So the most ultimate medicine I could ever give you - Meditate!! Meditate. Find time to be still with just yourself. No exterior noise or distraction. Just you and your breath. For anyone looking to really harness their communication with Spirit - I would say meditate either sitting, or laying down. However- you can also do a moving meditation; woodworking, metal smithing, walking, painting, and so on. You basically want to be able to turn off the noise, find the stillness inside yourself and the connection with Spirit.

If you feel like you can’t sit still or meditate, it might be easier to start with a moving meditative practice and then overtime shift it into a still meditative practice. The best medicine is - when you sit down to meditate, if you cannot calm your mind - get up and do something quick to get the jiggles out. Whether that be washing dishes, sweeping, a quick chore, a quick mini workout - whatever it is, get the energy moving. Then try meditating again. Meditation should never be treated as a chore or a task. This really helps frame the mindset around meditation. Try not to feel defeated if you only meditated for 3 minutes, or if you didn’t meditate at all. Because again - it’s not a chore. It’s something sacred, connecting you back to yourself. So seeing it as such will really help to build the meditative practice, the connection you have with your Self, and the connection you have with Spirit.

Some great tricks for people who have a hard time sitting still or in silence at first - set a timer. Set a timer for one minute, graduate to two minutes, graduate to three minutes, and so on and so forth. Maybe at first you start out listening to guided meditations, or meditative music before diving into pure silence. Ultimately, you want to be able to just sit with yourself in silence.

As you sit to meditate - you will never be able to turn off the critical thinking brain or the stream of thoughts in the mind. That’s okay - let that flow. The goal is to not harp on any one thought. If a work task passes through, or a chore that needs to be done, or something you forgot to do - let them swim through and let them pass. The goal is to not dwell on any one thought. In meditation, you are the observer. Let the thought go. If you find yourself dwelling on any one thought - no worries. Once you come into conscious awareness that you are dwelling - let the thought go. Let the grip you have on that thought release, and let it pass by.

About 20-25 minutes into a good meditation session, that’s where you’re really going to feel still and find answers. At least this is the case for me. You can meditate to connect to your own inner knowing (as you have all the answers inside of you already, it’s just a matter of tapping into it). You can also meditate to connect to your Higher Self, your Spirit Team, your Ancestors, the Angelic Realm, Spirit, etc. The world’s really your oyster here. The possibilities - endless. It’s a beautiful practice and should be treated with reverence.

In terms of those Clair’s. Yes, you will deepen your ability to connect with the Clair’s in meditation. You can build your Clair’s through exercises and practice outside of meditation, however meditation is really the bread and butter of everything.

Spirit doesn’t just come out and talk to us like we as humans talk to each other. Everything is subtle and everything is still.

The main four:

  • Clairsentience. Clear of feeling. This is when Spirit makes you feel a specific way. It could be you just know someone’s sister died because Spirit makes you feel a sisterly connection you have felt in your own life, and then the loss of that - for example.

  • Clairvoyance. Clear of sight. Not to be mistaken for being a Seer - similar veins, different avenues. You may visually see visions and imagery; either a competing overlay of your outer 3D reality, or in your minds eye. When building, or trusting, your clairvoyance, it may be easier to do it with eyes closed at first - building towards using it with your eyes open. It could feel like a movie reel, it could be still images, it could be water color paintings, it could look like a kaleidoscope, a photograph, etc etc. With Clairvoyance you may have the ability to see remotely, see a past event, see future possibilities, etc. Through mediumship you may be shown the sailboat that someone sailed on as a memory connected for the sitter in front of you, for example, and that memory connects to the loved one in Spirit for the sitter.

  • Claircognizance. Clear of knowing. This is when you know something. With no paranoia, no fear, no dread, no worry. It is still, clear cut, no emotional tie knowing. You just know, with no explanation of how you know. During a reading with a sitter, you may just know that their Father passed on, for example. You may just know that the loved one in Spirit suffered from addiction, for example. You may just know that there is a family rift and that certain Aunt’s and Uncle’s do not talk presently, for example. It is just this knowing that cuts through the noise.

  • Clairaudience. Clear of hearing. This one may be one of my favorites for it can be so subtle. When I was practicing my mediumship - I didn’t think I was clairaudient. Until I had this aha! moment. I imagined clairaudience being a Hollywood production. However, I was constantly connecting with my clairaudience, it was just so subtle I didn’t even realize it. Now - with this, it’s best to use discernment, and from my personal lived experience, shadow work and meditation really help contrast what is your minds thoughts and what is actually clairaudience. Now, with clairaudience you hear Spirit - either audibly or in your minds eye. You may have experiences where you audibly hear Spirit speaking to you. You may experience it more in your minds eye. When in your minds eye, you know that voice you may hear when you’re speaking to yourself in your head? Spirit can use that voice, it sounds just like you, when speaking to you. But this is where the discernment comes in - you need to be able to differentiate between what is your own thoughts in that voice - and what is actual clairaudience. But this is how subtle it is - it can be your own voice, in your own head, a thought that came through that wasn’t your own. This gets easier to differentiate the more you do it, where you will clearly know which is which.

Other mentionable Clair’s:

  • Clairalience. Clear of smelling. This is where you may get a scent of Rose perfume, a cigar, a cigarette, bourbon, and so on. This is Spirit communicating something about their person when in a physical body. A scent that you would immediately associate with them upon smelling.

  • Clairgustance. Clear of tasting. This is where you may taste a specific flavor, without consuming it and with nothing in your mouth, and immediately connect it with a person. If doing a read for someone, you may say - I am tasting metal, or I am tasting fish - (now you may use your other Clair’s to give this message a deeper, richer meaning; maybe you see the way the loved one in Spirit passed, or maybe you know they were a Chef and you taste the fish, or you see a fishing boat, taste the fish, and know they were a fisherman).

  • Clairtangency. Clear of touch. This is also known as psychometry. It is when you can hold an object in your hand and just know information about the history of the piece or the people connected to it.

With the Clair’s, the more you build each Clair, the more ways Spirit has to communicate. They weave a message through using your dominant Clair’s (most people have one or two dominant Clair’s) and as you build up your other Clair’s - they will begin giving even more detail through those other Clair’s. It is like weaving a fabric - each Clair add’s a richness to the read. The Clair’s interweave to tell the entire message. You may see, feel, hear, and know to complete just one message Spirit has to share. It sounds daunting and potentially overwhelming at first read - but with practice and time, the dance becomes this really beautiful story that will flow with grace. Like everything in life, practice makes perfect. And meditating, meditating really helps to build these abilities.

Whether you want to deepen the connection to your own Self, your Higher Self, your Spirit Team, Ancestors, Angels, Spirit… or begin studying so you can give a mediumship reading to a loved one or a stranger, you can use the Clair’s to help you communicate and connect. To give Spirit a louder voice. They are always there providing guidance, love, and support from beyond. All you have to do is tap in and ask them to share their wisdom and their love.

It is important to approach this from a space of heart center, deep reverence, and gratitude. This connection is sacred and special. Let it move your Soul into the way of alignment, and step further into who you are and why you are here. We all have medicine to share with this world. Let yourself step into that Light, allow people to see you, and move from a space of authenticity. Genuine connection, genuine action. I am here to remind you of your power.
